Prof. Ikram Guizani, PhD, Docteur d’Etat es Sciences, Senior Research leader at the Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT), is a molecular geneticist and biologist educated in Tunisia and France. She joined IPT in 1989 where she has pioneered molecular biology and genomics applications to neglected diseases and microbial infections caused by Leishmania species, HPV types and SARS-Cov2, addressing local, regional, and global needs. 

Her expertise encompasses development and evaluation of novel DNA markers and assays for detection, identification and taxonomy for diagnosis and molecular epidemiology; investigation and validation of (immune)therapeutic targets and computational and AI- based approaches to drug discovery. 

Pr. Ikram has led and contributed to creation of research networks to enhance capacity building and applications of advances in sciences like the South-South Initiative for Research on Infectious Diseases of Poverty, and the African Leishmaniases Consortium supported by DELTAS Africa initiative. She has supervised/mentored 30 Post-docs, PhD and MSc students, (co)authored 86 peer reviewed papers, coordinated 30 competitive, collaborative national and international grants and projects applications, and has received national and international awards.
