
Dr. Charles Shey Wiysonge is a physician with postgraduate training in epidemiology, evidence-based health care, and vaccinology. He currently serves as Regional Advisor for Immunisation and Team Lead for Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) at the WHO Regional Office for Africa. The VPD Team supports WHO Member States in Africa to provide life-saving immunisation services to tackle VPDs through an integrated, multi-sectoral life-course (from newborn to the elderly) approach within the broader health system, utilising available and new vaccines and technologies to ensure equitable access to immunisation and other primary healthcare services. His previous positions include Senior Director at the South African Medical Research Council; Director of Cochrane South Africa; Professor of Global Health at Stellenbosch University in South Africa; and Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
